Travel is the movement of people between distant geographical locations. This may involve moving by foot, bicycle, car, taxi, car share service, bus, plane or ship and may involve one way or return journeys. Travel can serve many different functions including vacationing, recreation, visiting friends or relatives for recreation or research or education purposes and exploring distant lands. With globalization and advances in technology creating vast new travel markets – including globalization- fueled travel industries that have flourished exponentially – this article will examine many different aspects of travel from its definition and history through to modes of transportation options available today – in depth!
